Quelques conseils pour le tir d'été du brocard !

Il ne reste que quelques jours avant l'ouverture de la chasse et notamment celle du tir d'été du brocard... Cette chasse étant en pleine expansion en France, la team Rêves De Chasse a souhaité faire un point et donner quelques conseils à ceux qui souhaitent s'y adonner pour passer la meilleure des saisons!

 

La chasse du brocard en été est une chasse passionnante qui vous fait pénétrer dans la vie des animaux sauvages tout en restant discret (par opposition à la battue où ce sont les animaux qui entrent dans nos dispositifs de manière plus artificielle, ces deux modes de chasse étant complémentaires). Cette chasse d’été est essentiellement une technique cynégétique silencieuse, d’observation qui permet de mieux comprendre l’espèce chevreuil et de déterminer avec discernement les différents problèmes qui la concernent tels que leur état sanitaire, leur accroissement normal ou pas, leur densité faible ou forte, ainsi que leur sex-ratio, tout cela pour mieux gérer l’espèce tout en permettant de prélever des brocards coiffés, par opposition à des brocards dépourvus de leurs bois ou en velours.

De plus, cette activité autorise d’observer d’autres espèces chassables comme le renard ou le sanglier et éventuellement de les prélever.

 

Le but ne consiste pas à « faire » du trophée à tout prix mais à maintenir un minimum de brocards adultes, garants d’une bonne reproduction et d’une sélection naturelle en conformité avec la biologie de l’espèce.

Lors de nos observations, nous définirons 3 catégories d’âge :

  • Les jeunes représentés par les faons et les sujets de 1 an aussi appelé Yearling (souvent coiffés de 2 petites perches de 8-10cm)
  • Les subadultes et adultes âgés de 2 à 5 ans
  • Les vieux dépassant 6 ans.

 

Nous déterminerons la qualité moyenne du territoire sur lequel on chasse, en ce qui concerne le poids moyen et le trophée moyen. Nous constatons en effet des différences morphologiques entre les secteurs de plaine et de montagne, entre les massifs à forte densité de cerfs (chevreuils plus petits) et ceux où il est absent (une lutte interspécifique règne entre les deux).

 

  • Sur le plan qualitatif, nous prélèverons sur une année autant de mâles que de femelles, répartis en 50% de jeunes, 20 à 30% de subadultes – adultes et 20 à 30% de vieux.

Dans chaque catégorie, on s’efforcera de prélever les plus faibles (brocards à boutons, petits daguets de faible poids surtout) et animaux déficients, parasités (œstrose, strongylose), malades encore en poil d’hiver, blessés, encore sous velours etc… Il ne faudra surtout pas hésiter à tirer les « têtes bizardes » qui sont presque toujours des animaux à problèmes.

A partir de l’âge mûr de 6 ans, tous les individus pourront être récoltés et particulièrement les grands trophées.

 

  • L’identification du brocard est difficile :

 

1 – La première étape consiste à déterminer le sexe avec certitude :

Un petit brocard vu de profil peut être confondu avec une chevrette (si ses bois sont petits et plus courts que les oreilles). Seule une observation de face du trophée ou la vue sur le pinceau pénien peuvent nous garantir le diagnostic.

 

2 – La deuxième étape consiste à déterminer l’âge par 3 types de critères : (voir encart)

  1. La silhouette : fine et élancée chez le jeune, plus épaisse chez l’adulte.
  2. Le rapport tête – cou : plus l’animal est âgé, plus le cou est large.

 

  • De face : chez le jeune, à l’inverse de l’adulte, la largeur du cou est inférieure à la largeur de la tête.
  • De profil : chez le jeune, le diamètre du cou est inférieur à la moitié de la longueur nuque-pointe du nez.

 

  1. Le comportement est essentiel pour la détermination de l’âge :

Le jeune est curieux et très mobile, ses yeux sont biens ouverts et ronds. L’adulte et le vieux sont plus discrets et méfiants. Chez le vieux, les yeux sont plus petits et les paupières moins ouvertes. Le comportement permet de décider entre un jeune beau et un vieux amaigri. Parfois, les vieux brocards au mois de juin peuvent encore porter du poil d’hiver sur les pattes (en montagne surtout).

3 – La troisième étape consiste à examiner le trophée entre les oreilles en vue de face, ce qui permet de visualiser des petits bois (invisibles en vue de profil), des têtes bizardes et surtout la masse des bois et des meules toujours localisée dans la partie inférieure, de même la forme tombante des meules souvent typique des brocards âgés.

 

Après ces 3 étapes d’identification et la prise de décision, il faut tirer rapidement. Si la moindre hésitation s’installe dans notre esprit, abstenons nous car c’est dans ces situations de doute que nous commettons les plus grandes erreurs (animaux d’avenir trop jeunes, mauvaises balles par tremblement excessif…).

En dehors de toutes ces considérations, le tir doit toujours se réaliser dans de bonnes conditions sur des animaux bien orientés de profil, à distance raisonnable, à l’arrêt ou en faible mouvement et avec une bonne visibilité (ne pas tirer dans la brume ou en situation d’obscurité).

 

  • Technique de chasse :

La chasse d’été du brocard se pratique toujours en chasse silencieuse individuelle à l’approche ou au mirador. Dans les 2 cas, le vent joue un rôle capital et le mirador choisi devra se trouver à bon vent par rapport au secteur sur lequel évoluent les animaux. L’accès au mirador se réalisera de la manière la plus discrète, de préférence sur un chemin préalablement nettoyé pour éviter tout dérangement qui risquerait de compromettre votre chasse (pas de bruit, mouvements lents et coulés). L’approche se pratiquera toujours avec un vent de face ou à la rigueur latéral, sur un sol silencieux (pas de branches, de brindilles, de gel en hiver) et dans un paysage peu dégagé. La progression dans l’espace sera lente avec des phases statiques d’observation discrète. En présence de vent tournant (mirador ou approche), il faut s’abstenir de chasser car l’échec est garanti et les animaux risquent de quitter le territoire.

 

  • Le matériel :

 

1 – Le choix des vêtements est important pour mieux se confondre avec l’environnement. L’idéal est la veste et le pantalon camouflés. Un chapeau ou une casquette sont indispensables pour masquer le visage ; un filet est encore mieux. Le port de gants de couleur adaptée est de rigueur pour occulter le mouvement des mains (port de la carabine, port des jumelles…). Il faut choisir des vêtements silencieux, qui, lors du frottement entre tissu ne vous fera pas remarqué, idéalement un tissu peau de pêche ou brossé.

 

2 – Le chasseur doit s’équiper d’accessoires tels couteau, lampe électrique ou frontale pour le soir, petite corde et bien entendu l’indispensable canne de pirsch facilitant la marche et surtout les conditions de tir.

 

3 – L’arme est très importante et ne peut être qu’une carabine à canon rayé dont l’énergie de la munition sera au minimum de 1000 joules à 100m. Les calibres les plus utilisés sont les 5,6 – 6.5 et 7mm. A proscrire les balles expansives de type H-Mantel, trop dangereuses et destructrices pour le chevreuil.

La carabine doit être munie d’un matériel de visée type lunette de préférence à grossissement variable. Par exemple 2.5-10X56 ou 1.5-6X42 plus légère mais moins performante. (Nous traiterons certainement ultérieurement le cas de l'arc !)

 

4 – Les jumelles constituent l’outil prioritaire et nous choisirons par exemple des 8X56 ou 10X42.

On peut privilégier le grossissement ou le pouvoir crépusculaire qui, de toute manière, doit être compatible avec celui de la lunette de tir. Enfin, pour les puristes, la longue vue (jusqu’à grossissement 30) peut rendre des services mais parfois des surprises par rapport à la taille du trophée.

 

 

Cette chasse d’été du brocard est tellement enrichissante et passionnante qu’elle mérite bien des attentions sur le plan éthique, technique et matériel. Cette activité procure des émotions et des souvenirs intenses personnels que nous pouvons partager sans cesse avec des amis épris de la même passion. Ainsi nous progresserons dans la connaissance de la nature, dans la gestion de l’espèce chevreuil et dans la défense de l’image d’une chasse propre et discrète.

 

Quand on est chasseur à  l'approche ou à l'affût, la bredouille est monnaie courante comparé à la récolte, le plaisir se trouve aussi dans l'observation de la nature, des espaces, des espèces et de déranger le moins possible l'environnement naturel dans lequel on évolue.

C'est une chasse bien plus difficile qu'elle y paraît, on se confronte à un gibier en plein milieu de son habitat qu'il connait par coeur, qu'il fréquente chaque minute de la journée. L'aspect "tir" en soi est aussi un facteur à travailler, par de l'entrainement régulier et un ciblage du matériel utilisé, c'est également un point essentiel pour la réussite et la confiance dans votre chasse.
